Patient safety, human factors, checklist culture.

Project description

The WHO Safer Surgery Checklist is generally performed poorly, we are looking at multiple ways to improve this.

We are involving MDT stakeholders (including human factors lead and hopefully clinical psychology) and developing a number of audit and QI methods to improve practice.

Opportunities for trainee involvement

  1. We are looking for help to undertake a complete audit cycle checking appropriate checklists are available in each theatre (May-Jun 2021). We need a 2nd trainee to help with this (based at RHH).

  2. Many opportunities for improving SSC use. See our driver diagram (resources) and feel free to contact us with ideas to develop this, or if you are interested in furthering any particular aspect.
